New on DVD and Blu-Ray

It’s the time of the Barnes & Noble Criterion sale, and as they often do, Criterion is celebrating with a mammoth box set. This time it’s a real doozy, a six-film box set of the American collaborations of Josef von Sternberg and Marlene Dietrich, spanning classics like Shanghai Express and The Scarlet Empress to lesser-known gems like Dishonored. But in case getting it for half-off makes you think this week won’t be such a big wallet-buster, Arrow is happy to prove you wrong, with two big box sets and the standard edition of their release of Dario Argento’s The Cat ‘o Nine Tails. And even Kino is joining in, with the home video debut of Michael Mann’s debut film, the made-for-TV The Jericho Mile. New titles, meanwhile, are barely even worth talking about, outside of the apparently-better-than-the-ads Blockers and Where is Kyra?, Bradford Young’s latest test to see how dark he can make his movies before people start revolting.
