New on DVD and Blu-Ray

There’s certainly a lot of stuff out on home video this week, but quality is even more of a crapshoot than normal. The big release this week is obviously Infinity War, but by far the best one is seasons 1 and 2 of Documentary Now, part of Mill Creek’s ongoing effort to release enough quality Blu-Rays of great shows to not seem like a C-team label. You’ve also got Sony giving Brian De Palma’s Casualties of War a quite surprising wide release Blu-Ray (how they think that’s going to sell more than a lot of the stuff they’ve thrown on BD-Rs or given to Twilight Time, I dunno), Arrow releasing Terry Gilliam’s very controversial Tideland, and Criterion and Universal giving us an Edward James Olmos double-feature of Robert M. Young’s The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez and Luis Valdez’s Zoot Suit (I’ve seen Zoot Suit and it’s something else, like a racially-charged All That Jazz). Other than that? There’s Lionsgate releasing John Cameron Mitchell’s divisive punk sci-fi opus How to Talk to Girls at Parties (whose nonexistent theatrical release from A24 was another notch in Elle Fanning’s insanely bad last two years) and it somehow being the most successful of their releases this week, beating out Alexandre Moors’ instantly-forgotten Iraq War drama The Yellow Birds (which couldn’t even capitalize on being released right around Solo and Hereditary and starring both Alden Ehrenreich and Toni Collette) and Rob Reiner’s never-talked-about-enough-to-be-forgotten Iraq War drama Shock and Awe. There’s The Only Living Boy in New York, a Graduate pastiche from the men who brought you The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Collateral Beauty. And there’s Universal deciding that what America needs right now is a Blu-Ray of Nutty Professor II: The Klumps.
