New on DVD and Blu-Ray

New titles are really not worth talking about at all this week, even as a way of indulging in the low-hanging fruit that is mocking Colin Trevorrow. Catalog titles are at least a little better, with Criterion upgrading Gregory La Cava’s classic screwball comedy My Man Godfrey and Arrow giving us a stateside Blu-Ray of Peter Fonda’s revisionist western The Hired Hand (which Vilmos Zsigmond shot the same year he shot McCabe and Mrs. Miller). But all that pales in comparison to the long-demanded Blu-Ray of Cabin Boy, Chris Elliott’s first and only opportunity to fully unleash his brand of weirdness on a mass audience. And Kino has done right by it, getting a new commentary and interview with Elliott and director Adam Resnick and filling the disc with archival interviews and b-roll footage. Sadly, the monkey is sold separately.
