• Lol’ing at the snowman. “We are invulnerable!” You go, snowman dude. Positive thinking.

“Nothing can stop us except for mild heat!”

    • “It is neither night nor day!” Midnight there seems a little confused about when he is, unless he’s in northern Sweden in July or some shit.

Every year at ComicCon, Greg Evernier does a slideshow of the worst comic book covers of all time. The last time I went “Circus Boy” came up, and even before he could make a joke the audience completely lost its shit. The caption just writes itself.

    • “Timmy, have you ever been in a Turkish prison?”

      • Son of Griff

“Behold, the Big Rock Candy Mountain!”

      • BurgundySuit

You know what they say about guys with big feet…

But really, possible pederasty aside, the thing that freaks me out most about this cover is the clown
s chin jutting out from the mouth of his mask.

Just so you know, this currently appears at the top of the front page’s recent comments list as “But really, possible pederasty aside…”

I was going to complain about the lack of The Phantom in these posts but I’ve just looked it up and apparently the comic’s primary distributor is Australia’s Frew Publications. I had always assumed it was a USA comic, like all the others. Do you Americans get The Phantom on your newsagent shelves? If not, then why did Billy Zane make a movie about it? Defenders of the Earth? Why does nobody ever talk about The Phantom anymore? Is it the racism?

    • BurgundySuit

It was printed in the newspaper comic section instead of monthly.

Man, Billy Zanes Phantom. A movie that isnt very good but is still somehow less terrible then it should be.

      • Rosy Fingers

I rewatched about a year ago and thoroughly enjoyed it, but I hated it when it came out. I’d been anticipating a Phantom movie for years and then it was just so clunky and Billy Zane was not my vision of the phantom and the suit did not make him seem powerful. It was one of my biggest let-downs in the cinema – I was pretty upset. I have less emotional investment now and I’m more inclined toward silliness, so I can appreciate its charms.

I did a marathon of 90s live action pulp movies a few years ago (Dick Tracy, The Rocketeer, The Shadow, The Phantom). What surprised me was, despite a better cast and clearly higher budget, The Shadow felt much more like an overblown slog than The Phantom which was just a zippy b level adventure movie.

Man, Archie Series’ Superduck’s character design would not get past Disney’s lawyers these days.

    • BurgundySuit

I just want to know why the heck he’s called “Superduck.” (I mean, I do know, and that doesn’t help.)
