Yup. My example at least has a common creative genealogy but it’s still something I’d rather appreciate than explain.

This one strikes me as an actual genuine coincidence, rather than two ideas taken from the same shopped-around idea, given how different they are. But it does happen, sometimes, doesn’t it?

A certain podcast next week will discuss another equally mindblowing coincidence that took place almost exactly five years later!

Yes, that inescapability is a huge part of how hard it is to not feel like shit (and make others feel like shit sometimes). You’re somewhere you don’t want to be but can’t leave — it’s like being on the subway for seven hours every day for four years, while going through puberty.

High school has all the additional pressures of high school – you can’t really escape, you have little choice where you go most of the time, you’re stuck with the same peers inside school as out, you’re trying to figure out your future, and oh yes, your brain is changing rapidly and your emotions are off the charts. It’s no wonder it’s a pressure cooker.

I attended my 10-year reunion after much groaning about how there would be a cheesy slideshow and stupid speeches. I travelled from out of town to attend, and basically none of my friends that still lived in town showed up. They put out hors d’oeurves at a bar and grill that hadn’t been built when I graduated. I sat drinking and wishing there were a cheesy slideshow or stupid speech or something.

Time to put my thoughts on Star Trek: The Motion Picture on the permanent record. Date TBD.
