The house that Ron offers to Carrie is one of my favorite movie “proofs of love”: it has a warmth her own home lacks, crucially, but it also has a beauty that transcends the amount of money that could have gone into it. Carrie’s house is made beautiful by price and taste; Ron’s–which will become their house–is made beautiful by work and time, and is thus a great symbol of their coming marriage.
