Superman is a good call; the way he’s changed meaning for different generations over the years shows how durable the character is as a symbol and an vessel for reflection (Batman has a similar quality of adjusting focus to reflect the anxieties of the times)

I’ve been wanting to check out Glen Weldon’s book Superman: The Unauthorized Biography which is about how the ways that the character has and hasn’t changed with the times.

Good call on Sun Records; I’ve got Motown high on my list. I recently caught up with the Muscle Shoals doc on Netflix and the range of what they accomplished is pretty amazing too.

His 30 Rock reviews were great; you could almost track his growing disinterest of insta-TV reviews in real time. I think there were a few times when he basically said in the review, “Ugh, guys, I don’t know what to say beyond this show is brilliant and I found this stuff funny.”

Thanks @ruckcohlchez:disqus. I do have sympathy for Nathan trying to figure out a new way to put the show’s brilliance in context week after week…it’s a tall order! It’s my favorite show of all time and it was tough to focus in on something specific about what made it great without spinning out in other directions.

That said, it always made me laugh when Nathan would mis-quote the show in the article and then imbed a video with the correct quote right next to it!
