New on DVD and Blu-Ray

And we were having such a promising string of weeks! This is something of a flatline of a week, one where even the highs are pretty muted. I mean, there’s Richard Brooks’ film of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, regarded as a good/great film, if not as an example of extreme source material fidelity, and a double-feature for relatively ignored French direct Philippe De Broca, and then you’ve got a couple reasonably well-liked TV shows, and then the not-disliked Tom Tykwer/Tom Hanks reunion A Hologram for the King, and then two Basket Case sequels, and that’s pretty much it. Even Arrow’s contribution this week (aside from its unboxing of its Battles Without Honor and Humanity set), its Female Prisoner Scorpion box set, has been widely criticized for its bizarre, unnatural color timing. And that’s all to say nothing of Scooby-Doo apparently teaming up with the WWE to fight the “Speed Demon”, which made me come distressingly close to making this the header image.
