There’s so much to talk about this week, from revelatory 4Ks of the middle two Mad Maxes to Paramount not only restoring Milos Forman’s Ragtime for Blu-Ray but also presenting a never-before-seen, 20-minute-longer workprint cut of it. But three of the biggest titles this week (at least for yours truly) all hail from 2001, and are all in their own ways nightmares of pop culture and shifting identities: David Lynch’s consensus masterpiece Mulholland Drive (Criterion’s long-awaited first step into 4K), Cameron Crowe’s still-underrated poison-pen letter to himself Vanilla Sky, and the greatest movie ever made, Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan’s justly reclaimed Josie and the Pussycats.
