New on DVD and Blu-Ray

There’s plenty of good stuff to go around this week. New releases are admittedly the weaker field, but there are some quality choices, namely season 2 of The Crown (a show I may have to check out now that I’m a card-carrying member of the Claire Foy Fan Club), the Nick Hornsby adaptation Juliet, Naked, and Hirokazu Kore-eda’s less acclaimed 2018 release, The Third Murder. And catalog titles have a lot to offer, including Robert Altman’s unconventional John Grisham movie, The Gingerbread Man, Spike Lee’s musical School Daze, Barbet Schroeder’s Single White Female, Allison Anders’ breakthrough Gas Food Lodging, and Harold Ramis’s last good movie, The Ice Harvest. The big news this week is that Dennis Hopper’s infamous boondoggle The Last Movie has finally been restored and released on home video, complete with, among other supplements, an Alex Cox documentary on it. I haven’t seen it, so I can’t say if it’s an Other Side of the Wind-esque piece of genius or just as much a disaster as it was believed to be at the time, but I’m eager to find out.
