New on DVD and Blu-Ray

A big week for catalog titles, the biggest of the bunch being Kino’s organizing of four of Ida Lupino’s directorial efforts in one box set. There’s also the Warner Archive Blu-Ray of the seminal noir The Set Up, Criterion going all in on sweet comedies with releases of Local Hero and Chaplin’s The Circus, Olive Films finally giving Roger Corman’s A Bucket of Blood a Blu-Ray worth a damn, and Arrow Academy releasing Billy Wilder’s first American film, The Major and the Minor. But of course, all that pales in the face of #shaftson, #somebodyson, and the combination thereof. I will never see this newest iteration of Shaft, but the amusement I get from its advertising campaign will last me far longer than the details of much better films.
