New on DVD and Blu-Ray

‘Tis the spooky season once again, and at least one studio has definitely noticed. Shout Factory is ringing in the scariest time of the year with their comprehensive box set of the Friday the 13th series; if only all their work was in service of a better horror franchise than that one, but ah well. They also have out a release of the horror-themed clip show Terror in the Aisles, which is still available as part of Universal’s Halloween II Blu-Ray for a helluva lot cheaper than the $30 Shout Factory list price, but ah well. Not a lot of scary options elsewhere, though I guess if you want to annoy everyone around you, you could argue that Requiem for a Dream (out this week on 4K) is actually a horror movie, man. No such statements can be made about Mallrats, out this week in a features-packed new edition from Arrow, unless you live in mortal fear of getting stink-palmed. And, to be fair, now would indeed be a pretty great time to be scared of that.
