New on DVD and Blu-Ray

Here I am again, trying to convince you that The Father is actually really good. From the outside, I get it, it really does seem like some “eat your vegetables” bullshit, especially now that it has the Oscars it would appear to be chasing. But much more than merely being depressing, it’s unsettling, a horror movie about a man who refuses to acknowledge that he’s not in a light drama. And yes, Hopkins 100% deserved that Oscar. It and fellow Oscar winner Minari are the big new releases in a stacked week, including big-ticket 4K reissues like Animal House, The Sting, and Last Action Hero, Sean Durkin’s long-awaited Martha Marcy May Marlene follow-up The Nest, and Paramount putting Brian De Palma’s legendarily overcooked Snake Eyes back in-print on Blu-Ray. Plus, there’s plenty of homicidal animal action, where it’s grizzly bears, French bull terriers, or cartoon cats and mice.
