New on DVD and Blu-Ray

They can’t even release a new movie into theaters without selling it to a streamer, but Paramount still finds a way to completely dominate this week. They may have an unfair advantage because a few of their titles are ones they forced Criterion to take out-of-print, biggest among them Days of Heaven and Rosemary’s Baby, but even outside of that, they’ve got quite the selection of random 90s/00s movies on Blu-Ray (finally, The Legend of Bagger Vance in glorious 1080p) and two big-ticket 4K upgrades, My Fair Lady and Super 8. If you count them licensing Joe Dante’s Explorers to Shout Factory, complete with over 30 minutes of the footage Dante was forced to remove due to the rushed editing process, they have an even more commanding lead. I might still give the upper hand to newcoming boutique label Fun City Editions, though, since they’ve restored and released Michael Ritchie’s Smile and not The Tuxedo.
