New on DVD and Blu-Ray

Here comes another week of Paramount dumping a baffling collection of their 90s/2000s movies onto Blu-Ray. Some of it makes sense; Better Luck Tomorrow timed to Justin Lin and Sung Kang’s return to Fast & Furious, Rat Race timed to the vicious reemergence of Shrek and thus Smash Mouth discourse, In & Out timed to everybody losing their minds about that other Frank Oz In and [blank] movie. Others are less explicable; if you’re like me and think the Stepford Wives is more successful than the conversations around it give it credit for being, you’re probably still not going to feel the need to pony up for a Blu-Ray of it. Disney is also clearing out the most forgettable entries in its 2000s back catalog, though their slate is different because it’s only available on eBay or to members of whatever the Disney Movie Club is. I can only hope the Club members enjoy their Blu-Rays of The Pacifier and Disney’s The Kid. For the rest of us, there’s not a ton else I feel compelled to speak to, though I’m sure others will be very happy about the Blu-Ray release of the director’s cut of But I’m a Cheerleader. Personally, I’m not a huge fan; if I want a Blu-Ray of a movie directed by a queer woman this week, it’s gonna be Herbie Fully Loaded (this is a lie but just go with me here).
