New on DVD and Blu-Ray

The big story this week is Shout Factory giving Monte Hellman’s almost impossible-to-find Warren Oates drama Cockfighter a Blu-Ray release, albeit with so little ceremony (a featureless disc exclusive to their website and limited to 1500 copies, announced mere days before its release) that them bothering with it at all is the only reward. Elsewhere, you have Criterion’s 4K of For All Mankind, Arrow’s second box set of Claude Chabrol titles, and one of Paramount’s customary vomiting-out of random catalog titles. The closest thing to a highlight in that batch is Jake Kasdan’s Orange County, a movie I will never forget a friend referring to as a Noah Baumbach script “directed by a can of Mountain Dew.”
