New on DVD and Blu-Ray

A jam-packed week with a little something for everyone, including those who wish it was still Halloweentime (or those who want to split the difference between Halloween and Christmas with the Silent Night, Deadly Night sequels). Rather than try to fit everything in here, I’ll focus on one title in particular, Joan Micklin Silver’s very funny (and long-overlooked) A Fish in the Bathtub. This is the best Hanukkah present money can buy, a feature-length showcase for Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara to kvetch at each other, all while a young Mark Ruffalo masters the art of comedic impatience and passive-aggression (often with Jane Adams as his target). The fish is good too but it’s in both the movie and the bathtub less than you’d expect.
