It also brings a hilarious new low-point in the career of once-beloved genre auteur Ben Wheatley, last seen doing a Thomas Kinkade impression of Alfred Hitchcock who now phones in a sequel to the Jason Statham-vs.-giant shark movie The Meg. Some even agree that Wheatley steers Meg 2 to being passable once Jason Statham finally fights the giant shark(s) in the last 30 minutes, after 90 minutes where he does not fight them.
