Julee Cruise was the voice of The Road House in Twin Peaks, frequently being featured there in an ethereal form. She was performing when Maddy was killed in Episode 7, as she was replaced by The Giant.
In 1990, David Lynch featured her in a short installation/play/concert at the Brooklyn Academy of Music for the start of their New Wave Music Festival. The play, Industrial Symphony No. 1: The Dream of the Brokenhearted, is an abstract tale told with deer costumes, kidnappings, and car parts.
There was a VHS released of the installation, made during the performance. But, that’s VHS. A DVD copy was released with David Lynch’s now out of print Lime Green Box Set. But, that was the only way you could get to see it. Now, Industrial Symphony No 1 is back out of print in the United States, and now online. It is worth a watch.
David Lynch’s 2011 concert film with Duran Duran, Unstaged, is being shown tonight in theaters. The trailer for that is at the bottom.
